Local people asked to share aspirations for Tower Hamlets
Developer LS Estates to use community feedback to inform social impact generated from new life sciences development.
LS Estates, the developer behind the transformation of 17 Columbus Courtyard (17CC) to become Canary Wharf’s next life sciences hub, has launched an online survey asking people living, working or visiting Tower Hamlets to share ideas of how it can generate social impact for the local area.
17CC will provide 190,000 sq ft of flexible laboratory and office space spanning nine upper floors, while the ground floor will feature a new communal area with café, co-working space, bookable meeting rooms and conference facilities.
Committed to supporting Tower Hamlets, LS Estates has launched a public online survey to better understand how the 17CC development can provide opportunities to deliver a positive impact, particularly regarding education, employment and sustainability.
People local to the area are encouraged to share their views by completing the survey, which has also been translated into Bengali, by visiting: www.community.17cc.co.uk
Paul Bailey, Managing Director – Life Sciences at LS Estates, said: “As a socially conscious developer, we want to engage proactively with our neighbours across Tower Hamlets to promote the exciting opportunities that life sciences will bring to this part of London, including creating pathways to employment and improving the surrounding environment.
“We’re looking forward to speaking with the community to explain more about 17CC and understand how the development can best support local aspirations.”
Monica Paul – Senior Social Value Manager at Morgan Sindall, said: “17CC will transform an existing building into a high-quality space that supports the growth of London’s burgeoning life sciences sector.
“It’s an exciting project with real potential to create lasting positive impact and we would encourage anyone who lives, works or visits Tower Hamlets to get involved and help shape the positive change the development will deliver.”
The Tower Hamlets community is encouraged to take part in the LS Estates’ survey or to meet with the project team at a pop-up event at Idea Store Whitechapel, 321 Whitechapel Rd, London E1 1BU from 10:00am – 2:00pm on 24 June 2025.
